2. Three-Toed Sloth:  

Sloths are slow-moving mammals that spend their lives hanging about in the trees of Central and South America.  He sleeps 16 to 18 hours each day and coming down only once a week or so to go to the bathroom. They move along the trees very slowly and stay close to their home range of about 12 acres. Their metabolism is half that expected of mammals a similar size and body temperature a few degrees lower than other mammals. Adult male sloths have unique pattern of yellow hair on their back with a black stripe through the center. It is named ‘three-toed’ because it has three toes on each of its front and hind feet.

3. Strawberry Poison Dart Frog:

Another great example of exotic animals in Costa Rica is the strawberry poison frog. He is perhaps most famous for its widespread variation in coloration, comprising approximately 15–30 color forms. The strawberry poison dart frog can change from red boiled with blue legs to green with black spots to navy blue. This unique creature is different for many reasons but in particular is its ability to morph. These frogs are found all throughout the Central America and Puerto Rico and these are only toxic in the wild. These frogs can create its poisonous defenses from natural elements found in the jungle.

4. Pizote: The pizote is a member of the raccoon family and despite the fact that it doesn’t look like the typical North American raccoon, it certainly possesses a lot of the same behavioral qualities. Pizotes range between 30 and 70cm in length, but weigh only about 2-8kgs.

Despite their small frame, they have strong jaws and sharp teeth and, just like their North American cousin, can be often found digging for food in garbage bins.

    While toucans inhabit majority of the South and Central American continent, this specific type is particularly popular on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. They are not easy to spot in the wild.  Including its bill, the keel-billed toucan ranges in length from around 42 to 55 cm (17 to 22 in).Their large and colorful bill averages around 12–15 cm (4.7–5.9 in), about one-third of its length. It typically weighs about 380–500 g (13–18 oz).
