Yoga is becoming a trend everywhere. Since this is the country of the pura vida lifestyle, Costa Rica is a place where people are very concerned about their health. Health tourism is also increasing and lots of people choose our country to enjoy a relaxing experience that is also good for you. Mariel Marmorato, a yoga teacher and owner of Ser Om Shanti Studio in Tamarindo, helped us with information about yoga retreats in Costa Rica.
Blue Spirit Yoga and Healing Space
Overlooking Playa Guiones, this yoga retreat offers a full-service spa, a saltwater infinity pool, comfortable “eco-cottages,” and vegetarian meals three times a day. Retreats are held throughout the year, bringing in professional yoga instructors from around the world.
Blue Spirit is a retreat center that is mostly booked throughout the year with retreats that are organized by the teachers that you see on the Upcoming Program schedule.
Samasati Nature Retreat
The founders were yoga and meditation teachers, students of Osho, looking to share the gifts of these practices. The retreat was built with simple tools wielded by bare hands with the goal of minimal impact on the environment and eco system. Land and trees were not cleared, instead structures were positioned so they would blend with the surroundings. Rainwater was chosen as the primary water source.
The practice spaces are specifically oriented and designed to facilitate transformation, breakthroughs, celebrations and moments of bliss. The two buildings, screened hexagonals with large verandas, are surrounded by thriving jungle and gardens. The larger space, Meditation Hall, is 1,292 square feet while the smaller is named Yoga Studio and is 969 square feet. Both have rich wood flooring and are equipped with yoga props as well as a sound system.
Anamaya Yoga Retreat
Anamaya runs weekly Yoga Retreats and is located next to a spectacular waterfall. They offer: yoga, aerial silk dance, surfing, circus skills, specialized workshops, meditation, art, and more. The yoga deck is expansive, the infinity pool with the coastal view is refreshing, and the organic meals are served three times a day. Although the focus is mainly on yoga retreats, teacher trainings are also held at Anamaya, which means “good health” in Sanskrit.

In the health-crazed beach town of Nosara, the Harmony Hotel is one of the most beloved yoga resorts in the country. It’s got a truly breathtaking yoga studio surrounded by jungle, where classes are held every day for both guests and the public.

Adjacent to their yoga studio, is an additional open-air yoga sanctuary located near a lily-filled pond where our animal friends get water in the dry season.
