We arrived at Buena Vista Lodge, at Rincon de la Vieja, at midday and our room was ready. We left our bags and went directly to the lovely swimming pool. There we had a light, yet delicious lunch : a chicken wrap and a casado.

Buena Vista is located close to the Rincón de la Vieja National Park, part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area. The area is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of the five main ecosystems of the tropics.

We also liked the place because of its commitment towards nature. They work with the concept of sustainability as something real with the purpose of improving the way natural and social resources are used, promoting the active participation of local communities. Buena Vista Lodge, at Rincon de la Vieja, has 5 CTS leaves rating (Tourism Sustainability Certification) and 4 CST leaves in gastronomy. They also have a farm where they produce many of the products served at the meals.

After lunch we went to the spa area that hosts natural hot springs and volcanic mud. One of the employees explained the circuit we needed to follow in order to appreciate the experience at its best. This is how it goes: 1- Five minutes in the sauna. 2- Spread the volcanic mud all over the body and face. 3- Cold shower. 4- Enjoy the hot springs. When finished you feel 5 years younger!

At 6 pm we watch the sunset from the bar while we were having some cold drinks. People were taking pictures and enjoying the incredible sunset.

The following day we went hiking and exploring the hanging bridges. In the surroundings of the eco-lodge, a variety of birds enchant with their feathers and melodies. Buena Vista Lodge has 16 bridges at a maximum height of 20 meters. They also have 6 hiking trails.

The lodge offers horseback riding as well as canopy. These two activities are the only ones that are not included when you book a room. Some of the animals you  might see at Rincon de la Vieja: hummingbirds, Toledo birds, Marshbirds; spider, white face and howler monkeys; iguanas; a variety of butterflies and mammals such as tapirs, jaguars, kinkajous, amongst others.

We ended our stay with the adrenaline of a refreshing experience in a 425 meter long water slide.
